One of the Red Sea’s largest islands, the Gifton Island is also the world’s second largest island, the first of them being the Shedwan Island. The island is famous for its very colorful fish, rare birds and coral reefs. The Gifton Island has over 196 types of solid coral reefs representing more than 80% of the Red Sea’s coral reefs biodiversity. This island is the home of the one rare specie of turtle and also the home of over 794 coral reefs fish species. The fish number represents 65% of the fish’s biodiversity. On this island also live a type of eagles and a bird called the Kittiewake, two birds that are in danger of extinction. Few years ago one of the world’s biggest sharks, the Whale Shark, was seen in the vicinity of the Gifton Island. This island is a bigger archipelago’s part; the archipelago also includes the islands El Gifton El Sagheer, Abu Monqar Island and El Gifton El Kbeer. If we take into consideration the intensity of the island` s rock, the Gifton Island is over 33 million years old. The geological composition of the island is a rare one. The island has a very important economic and tourist position, being of the most significant naval and diving spots. The Gifton Island has 14 diving spots in its vicinity, the number representing around 31% of the Hurghada`s diving centers. About 187513 tourists are coming to this island early. In 1995 the island was declared a protected area due to its location that faces the Hurghada Beach. If you visit the Gifton Island you can swim, dive or enjoy snorkeling. You can take the lunch on a boat and spend the night at hotel.
